Foundation 92 Walking Football Team Defeated by Oldham Athletic Community Trust Ahead of Salford City Fixture

Foundation 92’s walking football team proudly represented Salford City FC on Saturday morning, taking on Oldham Athletic Community Trust in an entertaining and good-spirited fixture ahead of the 1st team’s Sky Bet League Two clash at the Peninsula Stadium.

Despite a strong effort from the home side, Oldham came away with an 8–3 victory, but the morning was about far more than the scoreline. The fixture showcased the power of football to bring people together, promote active lifestyles, and highlight the inclusive opportunities offered through Foundation 92’s community programmes.

The match served as a curtain-raiser to the afternoon’s senior fixture, with both sets of walking footballers taking to the pitch under the watchful eyes of early arriving supporters.

The Foundation’s walking football sessions are open to men aged 50+ and women aged 35+, providing a fun and social environment that also supports those living with long-term health conditions, cardiac or stroke recovery, and mental wellbeing challenges.

Kenny Flint, Health & Wellbeing Manager at Foundation 92 said: “Opportunities like this are what our work is all about, it’s not just about competition but about connection, inclusion, and giving people the chance to enjoy football in a way that suits them.”

The fixture against Oldham Athletic Community Trust reflects the shared community values of both clubs, with each using football as a vehicle to improve health, wellbeing, and social inclusion.

Following the game, both teams came together to celebrate the occasion and attended the match at the Peninsula Stadium.

Foundation 92 continues to offer weekly walking football sessions across Salford, encouraging anyone looking to stay active or rediscover their love of the game to get involved.
