Foundation 92 is taking its Walking Football team to Breda, Netherlands for the upcoming EFDN European Walking Football Tournament.

On the 31st May Foundation 92’s Walking Football team will be attending and representing both Foundation 92 and Salford City FC competing against 13 other Community Foundation teams with the likes of Athletic Bilbao, Club Brugge, Newcastle United, Rangers, Benfica SL & Schalke 04 in a one-day tournament.

Foundation 92 staff will be accompanying the team in a coaching capacity in Breda.

Head of Foundation 92, Tom Hutton said: “We are extremely excited to be venturing to the Netherlands with our Walking Football team. Over the past few months we have created quite a bit of momentum with our Walking Football sessions with many regulars coming down every week to join in.

“It’s fantastic to see the Walking Football sessions bringing smiles to faces week in week out, the trip to the Netherlands is one everyone is extremely excited to be involved with.”

Taking part in the EFDN Walking Football tournament is part of Foundation 92’s wider work offering weekly walking football sessions to cater for the needs of the community. The importance of senior citizens  taking part in physical activity is extremely beneficial, helping unlock old memories through the magic of sport while keeping them healthy and moving.

The Walking Football League aims to deliver health-enhancing physical activity to people over the age of 50 years old, as well as provide opportunities to increase social inclusion levels allowing them to lead a physical and socially active lifestyle.
