In 2022, Age UK Salford in partnership with Foundation 92 launched a new walking football programme for older people living with Dementia in Salford. The programme was a huge success, supporting over 20 participants each week.

The programme has now taken a new form, focusing on multiple sports and activities for those living with Dementia, their carers, and former carers. The local scheme is part of a wider Age UK programme supported by Sport England to help older people in Salford to keep active and to improve physical and mental wellbeing.

The sessions involve a one-hour session of physical activity, followed by an hour of memory focused activities.

The sessions run on Thursdays, between 1:00pm and 3:00pm at Salford City FC’s Peninsula Stadium in Bar 92. The sessions are open to anyone over the age of 50 living with dementia. The group is supported by Foundation 92 staff, who provide professional and experienced mentors to support the group.

For more information about this programme, please contact Foundation 92’s Health and Wellbeing Manager, Siobhan at Siobhan.McGarel@Foundation92.co.uk.
