In line with the commencement of the UEFA Women’s Euros 2022 competition, Foundation 92 is delighted to announce the launch of several new programmes aimed at increasing participation and the involvement in football of women and girls.

The new programmes will coincide with Foundation 92’s new Female Participation Strategy and will include Weetabix Wildcats, Squad Girls and Foundation 92 Outreach sessions. Foundation 92’s new programmes have been supported and funded by the Sport England Jubilee Fund, The Football Association and Manchester Football Association.

Weetabix Wildcats is an initiative funded by The Football Association. It is non-competitive football for girls who want to give it a go for the very first time or want to play with other girls of their age between 7-11. The Wildcats sessions are designed to boost confidence, meet new friends, increase physical activity and to try football.

Squad Girls is a programme designed for girls aged between 12-14 to provide fun, that includes relevant and engaging recreational sessions allowing participants to focus on personal development as well as their football skills in a safe and inclusive environment. The programme has been specifically designed to give autonomy, choice and voice to the girls who are involved in the sessions.

The Foundation will also be running several female specific Outreach sessions across Salford, which will be offered free of charge and have been designed to provide young women and girls the opportunity to try a range of sports chosen by themselves.

Chair of Foundation 92, Yvonne Harrison, said “The rise of the women’s professional game has been immense, and this is so inspiring for young girls, they can see their hero’s and now there is a genuine route to be them too! That said, not everyone will become an elite player, so it’s really important we celebrate all that football can give to people young and old, participating, making friends, building social skills, having fun, improving health and that’s why we are so excited to be launching all our activity”.
