A man referred to the Foundation 92 Wellbeing Hub just two weeks after leaving prison has been supported to regain stability, access his home, and take positive steps towards recovery.
The individual, who was released in March 2025, faced multiple challenges including homelessness, financial instability, and declining mental health. With no access to his property, no phone, and benefits not in order, he was left vulnerable and at risk of further crisis.
Staff at the Hub acted quickly to provide practical support. They arranged support on how to purchase of a basic mobile phone, enabling him to apply for Universal Credit. Within two days, his first payment was in place. However, the most significant challenge remained: he could not access his flat after losing his keys while in custody.
After negotiations with the housing provider provided only partial access, Foundation 92 covered the cost of lock replacements. This allowed the man to finally return to his home — a turning point he described as an “enormous relief.”
With stable accommodation restored, the Hub helped him arrange a GP appointment, re-establish his sick note, and secure a new smartphone funded by the Jobcentre. His benefits were fully reinstated, and a financial management plan was agreed in partnership with his probation officer. He also began attending alcohol rehabilitation sessions at Cirtek and has continued to engage with this programme.
Since then, staff have reported significant improvements in his wellbeing. He now appears healthier, calmer, and more optimistic about the future.
A spokesperson for Foundation 92 said:
“This case shows how important it is to provide joined-up, practical support. By solving immediate problems like housing and benefits, we can give people the stability they need to focus on their health, wellbeing, and longer-term recovery.”
The individual continues to receive light-touch support but is now more independent, motivated, and engaged, with the right structures in place to sustain his progress.
