On the 17^th of September, Foundation 92 Founders and special guests are attempting to walk Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon (a total ascent of 3,064 metres) in 24 hours.

They are attempting this walk to raise vital funds to provide 1,500 food packs and 500 hours of mentoring through an initiative set up by Foundation 92 and Salford Foodbank.

With the cost-of-living crisis set to take full affect this winter, Foundation 92 and Salford Foodbank have teamed up to provide a 3-pronged approach to support the community; extra food will be purchased to support the increased need, Foundation 92 staff will be based at local food banks to support the operation whilst also providing a community mentoring programme for struggling families.

Salford Foodbank saw a 43% increase in the number of food parcels needed in the month after the April energy price rise. Along with general inflationary pressures, demand is now consistently more than 80% greater than this time last year and will probably get worse through the winter. Currently Salford Foodbank are providing over 1,500 food parcels each week – around 2400kgs, worth £5,000.

Foundation 92 and Salford Foodbank are attempting to raise £35,000 to carry out this initiative.

Foundation 92, Co-Founder, Nicky Butt, said “We understand how the increase of the cost of living is affecting individuals and families in the community, here in Salford. This initiative will be so important in providing members of the local community with vital supplies this winter, for what could be a very difficult time for many.”

Head of Foundation 92, Tom Hutton, said “The local community is at the heart of everything we do. As a Foundation, we felt we had to act, to help those most in need alongside Salford Foodbank. We will deliver a 3-pronged approach to support the community with the help of Salford Foodbank and we hope that this will aid many individuals and families over the next 6 months”.

Community Engagement Co-ordinator at Salford Foodbank, Paul Harris, said “Salford Foodbank has been working across Salford for 10 years helping those who are really struggling. 

“This is an exciting partnership that will help us to continue to do that through a tough winter and improve the service we offer. Having community mentors in our Foodbank Centres will help accelerate our plans to lift more people out of food poverty in Salford”.
