Alfie’s Story- A route into coaching with Foundation 92

When Alfie first stepped into Foundation 92, he was a young football enthusiast looking to begin his career into the world of coaching. What started as a simple week of work experience it quickly evolved into the commencement of his Foundation 92 journey, not just for Alfie, but for the many young people he’s since inspired.

“I began with a week of coaching people of different abilities,” Alfie recalls. “I absolutely loved it — getting involved, playing football with the kids, and seeing how the sessions brought smiles to their faces. It was a great experience, and I knew it was something I wanted to be part of long-term.”

From those early days, Alfie’s journey has been inspiring. Through Foundation 92, he’s taken part in the NCS Programme which included residential trips to Wales, experienced the thrill of Hotel Football, and toured Port Vale’s stadium. Each experience brought him closer to the heart of the Foundation’s mission: using sport as a force for positive change in communities.

Alfie’s passion and dedication didn’t go unnoticed. He began supporting coaching sessions for the Under 14 and Under 16 girls’ teams, where he quickly became known for delivering fun, challenging, and engaging activities. His confidence soared and so did his qualifications. In less than a year, Alfie completed three coaching courses and is now preparing to take his UEFA C License.

His progression from volunteer to fully-fledged member of the sessional staff team is a testament to the opportunities Foundation 92 provides to young people.

“It’s been incredible to watch Alfie’s journey,” says Jess Peers (Head of Programmes).  “From starting out on work experience to stepping up as a volunteer and now becoming a valued part of our staff. Alfie is a brilliant example of how passion, commitment and hard work can open doors. We’re proud of everything he has achieved, and I’m genuinely excited to see what the future holds for him.”

Ricardo Silva (Community Programmes Manager) stated:

“Alfie now helps us with multiple sessions and has a great relationship with staff and the young people. His support to the foundation doesn’t go unnoticed. The hard work he puts into every session really aligns with the values of Foundation 92.”

Alfie’s story is more than a personal success, it’s a powerful reflection of what Foundation 92 is all about: empowering young people, building confidence, and providing real pathways into sport, coaching, and community leadership.

“It’s a great organisation to get involved with,” Alfie says. “Foundation 92 gives you the chance to connect with people, make a difference in their lives, and grow as a person. I’m proud to be part of something so meaningful.”

Foundation 92 continues to change lives — one session, one opportunity, and one journey at a time.
