Foundation 92 supported by the Crewe to Manchester Community Rail Partnership, CrossCountry Trains, Avanti West Coast, TransPennine Trains, Network Rail, Northern Rail and Greater Manchester Police, are to deliver a community programme for young people to voice their opinions on the rail and transport networks.
The sessions will include group discussions, workshops, and visits to transport points around Greater Manchester, to cover a variety of topics. The group will focus on understanding the benefits of using public transport and how it can impact their lives, highlighting their phobias and fears regarding the transport network and expressing their views on anti-social behaviour.
The aim of the programme is for young people in the community to co-create a video highlighting the benefits of the rail and transport networks to young people across Greater Manchester with Foundation 92.
Head of Foundation 92, Tom Hutton, said: “We’re proud to be delivering this programme as part of the Community Rail Partnership. We understand that there are many benefits to using the transport network across Greater Manchester and we want to help and support the next generation to also see the benefits it can have for years to come.”
Mark Barker, Chair of Crewe to Manchester Community Rail Partnership, said: “Crewe to Manchester are pleased to be working with Foundation 92 on this important project. Owning and running a car is beyond the reach of many young people. It is important that transport networks, and rail in particular, understand the needs and concerns of young people in order to provide services that better meet their needs, and indeed those of the wider population. It is so important that we encourage greater use of sustainable forms of travel.”
Georgia Ehrmann, CrossCountry’s Regional Director for West Midlands and Northwest, said: “It’s fantastic to be supporting Foundation 92 to deliver sessions for young people in and around Stockport.
“Rail and public transport provide a vital gateway for connecting young people with key life opportunities – so it’s important that they feel safe and assured when using train services across the country.”
