Salford City Football Club is excited to announce a greatly reduced admission price for the fixture against Gillingham on Saturday 11th April, to kick-off the celebrations that mark 100 years since Salford was granted City status.
Match admission for the game will be just £1.40 per person for home and away supporters, which is the equivalent of what the average cost of a ticket at the Peninsula Stadium in 2026 would have been back in 1926.
Salford celebrates its 100th birthday as a City on Tuesday 21st April, and the game against Gillingham on Saturday 11th is our last home fixture before the date.
With only a handful of games remaining in the 2025-26 season, Salford City are currently sixth in Sky Bet League Two – the fourth tier of the English Football League (EFL) – and competing for promotion to League One.
Speaking about the initiative, Martin Ingham-Griffith, Chief Executive Officer at Foundation 92, said:
“This is a huge milestone for the City of Salford and as a Club and a Foundation we are all excited to be part of it by running this offer to encourage as many residents to come and celebrate with us as possible.
“We put our community at the forefront of everything that we do throughout the Club and the Foundation, and this is an opportunity for us all to support one another and celebrate together at this hugely exciting time for Salford both around the City and at the football club.
“Becoming a City for the first time was an historic moment for Salford, and there would be no better way of celebrating that than with an exciting end to the season, with lots to play for.”
Tickets for the game are available to buy in advance online at www.salfordcitytickets.co.uk, or from the ticket office on Moor Lane (visit in-person, phone 0161 711 1164, or email tickets@salfordcityfc.co.uk).
The game is also Foundation 92’s annual Community Day, and the Club’s charity will be hosting a free event at Peel Park in Little Hulton, Salford, with family-focused activities that are engaging, provide a community feel, and give people the chance to find out more about the Charity’s work across the region including how they support over 17,000 individuals each year. The event starts from 11:00am BST, and the Foundation will be providing free return travel to the Peninsula Stadium for the game.
Salford City FC, known as ‘The Ammies’ since the days of being called Salford Amateurs from 1963 to 1978, became the City of Salford’s first professional football team in 2017, and became the City’s first EFL representatives in 2019.
The use of the ‘City’ moniker was approved in 1990 to celebrate the Club’s 50th anniversary, following a campaign by the Club’s committee to use it and become a Club that was truly representative of the City.
Under the name of Salford City, the Club has been transformed with the men’s first team ascending from the 10th tier of the English football pyramid in 1991 to their current position in the fourth tier, alongside the addition of a women’s team – Salford City Lionesses – in 2018 and an Academy in 2017, which now develops players from the age of eight up to 18, providing a pathway into professional football, education, and careers.
