Foundation 92 launch a brand-new Walking Football Club

Foundation 92 have now officially launched its very own Walking Football Club. To coincide with this, the Foundation is taking its Walking Football team to Germany for the upcoming EFDN Walking Football Tournament.

Today the team will travel to Germany for the one-day Tournament at Bayer 04 Leverkusen’s Training base.

The Foundation 92 team will be competing against 13 other Community Foundation teams with the likes of Athletic Bilbao, Club Brugge, Newcastle United, Rangers, Benfica SL and Shalke 04 taking part.

Staff from the Foundation will be accompanying the team in a coaching capacity in Germany.

Head of Foundation 92, Tom Hutton, said: “We are delighted to not only be launching our first ever walking football club but to also be taking them to take part in a European walking football tournament. Our walking football sessions have regular participants every week, and to give them this opportunity, to travel to Germany is something everyone is extremely excited about.”

This new football club will seek to support individuals with cardiac rehabilitation and stroke rehabilitation, whilst additional sessions of the sport will be introduced including female walking football and many more. The club will also coincide with the Foundation’s current Dementia Friendly Walking Football sessions run in partnership with Age UK and Age UK Salford.

Taking part in the EFDN Walking Football Tournament is part of Foundation 92’s wider work offering weekly walking football sessions to cater for the needs of the community. The importance of senior citizens taking part in physical activity is extremely beneficial, helping unlock old memories through the magic of sport while keeping them healthy and moving.

The Walking Football League aims to deliver health-enhancing physical activity to people over the age of 50 years old, as well as provide opportunities to increase social inclusion levels allowing them to lead a physical and socially active lifestyle.
