Foundation 92 will deliver a Girls Engagement Project with a dedicated Goalkeeping Pathway, aimed at increasing participation, confidence and progression opportunities for girls aged 6–18 across Salford and surrounding communities.
Many girls are not given the opportunity to try being a goalkeeper due to:
- Lack of female role models (95% of goalkeeper coaches are male. This is why The KeepHers Programme is key)
- Limited school or grassroots opportunities
- Barriers due to peer pressure & confidence issues. Participation drop off rates increase after puberty.
The project will introduce girls to football through inclusive community delivery, while focusing on targeted goalkeeper-specific opportunities for girls, particularly at the grassroots and school levels.
The programme will build directly on Foundation 92’s existing Girls ETC, Kicks, and School sessions, creating clear entry points, progression routes and links to Salford Lionesses and the wider female football pathway.
Session days and timings:
- Goalkeeping specific sessions will be delivered in our partner schools and after school clubs Monday-Friday
- At our Girls ETC sessions each week
- Special taster sessions during May Half-Term (dates & times tbc)
