Health & Wellbeing

Foundation 92 support over 100 residents of Thomas House through weekly Health & Wellbeing sessions.

Participants have taken part physical activity & nutritional sessions to help with their re-introduction into society.

The Achieve programme, funded by Salford CVS, was created to work with and support people who are struggling with drug and/or alcohol addiction. The session focussed on fun, enjoyment, sport, and healthy eating advice, as the attendees were living in supported accommodation and were responsible for creating their own food shopping lists on a weekly basis.

As the sessions continued, Foundation 92 decided to bring the male and female groups together to take part in rounders and circuit training, which was specifically designed to improve balance and coordination – something which addiction to substances can negatively affect and reduce mobility. This is due to being nervous of looking a certain way and then never attempting to try and improve. The circuits were delivered in a safe space and all attendees who took part felt the benefits directly afterwards, but more importantly, the need to continue as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Craig Purton from Thomas House said:

As an organisation we have been working with Foundation 92 for approximately 18 months, in that time over 100 residents of Thomas have taken part in different activities such as Yoga, Circuit training, Football, and rounders. They have also been taught about nutrition and healthy eating habits

The clients always look forward to Friday’s session with Foundation 92 staff. I have seen such positive changes in the clients from taking part in the different activities mentioned, we have had clients saying how much the yoga helped them and how their fitness and mental health has improved since doing the circuit training

The Thomas programme has a balance of group room and other activities this perfectly complements the different timetable.

From attending the clients decided to form a 5 a side team and enter a tournament this has really helped with their confidence and their reintroduction into society

This session is now funded by Salford CVS and runs as our ‘Come As You Are’ sessions which take place weekly at Peel Park & Albert Park.
